Dropping a Course
Hi,

So I'm not doing to well in one of my courses. I'm really considering dropping it. I was told just to go through with it since I can still do well but its not likely. What are consequences of dropping a course in a third year? Will it affect what I do later on like when applying to graduate school?

Thanks...

Well, the last day to drop a course without failure is November 12th. So you have until tomorrow to make your decision.

If you drop it before then on your transcript it will say the course was cancelled, and you can forget about it and repeat the course at a later time. It will not affect your cumulative average. But, you may not be able to take other courses that use that course as a pre-requisite so you will have to get permission from the profs/faculty.

its just an elective course. I think I am going to drop it. It's going to ruin my CGPA if I continue with it. I'm considering overloading. What is taking 6 courses in a semester like? Is it manageable?

Most students in the BA/BSW stream of social work have to take six courses a semester (I'm one of the exceptions because I entered the program with 66 units). From what I've been told, it definitely is manageable, but you just have to manage your time effectively. However, saying that, they do have a lot more work and less time to do it.

It's manageable, many engineering students take 6 per semester and sometimes 7.

Don't plan on having free time

is there a way to possibly get the course outlines for courses next semester? I would like to know how heavy the course load would be and to make sure I don't have mid-terms all bunched up.

Currently taking 6 courses this semester, and 4 next semester and would not recommend it. On top of having close to no free time to do anything, the times I decide to enjoy myself and not spend my time doing work, I fall behind and just make everything worse for myself...

If you do plan on taking 6 courses, expect not to have any free time... If you do, expect to fall behind... If you fall behind, expect to have your sleep schedule thrown off and miss classes to catch up

Taking six courses in a semester is totally manageable. I do it all the time. It's all about managing your time. If you prioritize your time studying and doing homework you can stay on top of all of your work AND have free time to go out and have fun with your friends (or stay in and relax with friends whichever is your thing). Anyways, just manage your time well and you'll be fine. If you need help managing your time next semester just PM me and maybe I could help you out.
