IT Collection, Reuse & Recycle
For McMaster’s 2010 Earth Day celebration, the Office of Sustainability, in collaboration with Facility Services, Media Production Services, University Technology Services, Computer Services Unit, BioSphere, and the Ron Joyce Centre, will be collecting outdated technological devices, including computers, printers, scanners and fax machines, at two locations on campus, one location at the Downtown Centre, and one location at the Ron Joyce Centre.
Computer Equipment:
Collection, reuse and recycling of computer equipment has become an important area of focus because these devices not only contain harmful chemicals, such as cadmium, mercury and lead, but are also costly to dispose of in a responsible manner. If you have computer equipment that is destined for recycling or that could be reused by someone else, please take this opportunity to champion sustainability in your area and take advantage of this special event.
Please note that computer hard drives will be sanitized before the equipment is reused or recycled.
At the end of the Earth Day event, all leftover computer equipment will be fully recycled according to standards compliant with the Ontario Electronic Stewardship Program.
Print Devices:
Save paper, energy, money, toner and more by supporting McMaster’s Strategic Print Solution. In addition to not being able to print double sided, the average desktop printer costs over $300 in energy every year!
Printers collected during this event will not be reused, but will be collected and sent for complete recycling.
