Blue Star Earth Sci 1g03

Earth Science 1G03 is a great elective for all students regardless of their programs. I found the course to be very interesting. The professor John Maclachlan, made the material interesting and had great lecture style.

The course focuses on a range of topics including Plate Tectonics, Ice Age, Volcanoes, Rocks & Minerals, Earthquakes, Landforms, and other topics. During our Rocks & Minerals unit we went on a field trip to see the Niagara Escarpment in Hamilton while completing a lab.

The course includes 3 lectures per week and a bi-weekly lab. Lab work included mapping, rocks, and other hands-on activities. Labs also include some small paper writing. Very straight forward and easy to do well on if you put the effort in.

Midterm: definitions, lists, multi-part answers, and few fill in the blanks, labeling & drawing images.

The Exam was very similar in format and style. The material is not difficult, just requires a bit of memorizing.

The professor gives a lot of hints and advice for the midterm and Exam. Attendance is important in order to do well on the tests. The course does have quite a workload, however if you put in the effort and complete everything on time, you should do well.

The work load in this course is not too heavy, a lot of the labs you can get a large part done in lab. I would say that compared to other courses where there is required readings and essays and such this is a lighter work load. It's an intro course so the work is pretty simple and will only require a couple hours max for each lab.

Course load is not very heavy, it's very fair and simple. Straight forward labs and assignments that can be done in an hour. TA's are helpful in nudging you in the right direction.

This course doesn't have an essay.
As for the labs...there aren't really any reports. Its more assignments, and any writing that needs to be done is explained so you shouldn't have a problem with the labs.

The workload is very light, since labs are not very hard. However, midterms are a lot harder than the labs, and you should study a lot more for them.

Note: a lot of people get tired of working with rocks so much.

it wasnt too difficult, if you keep up with the readings before class, its much easier to understand the lectures but even if you dont its still easy to understand. The workload is mostly from the labs and they dont much time to do.

Yep, I found the textbook particularly helpful to reiterate certain topics. If you have Eyles, she's really reasonable about assigning readings and tells you for the most part to just skim through (even the text is pretty simple itself).
