Earth Sci 1GO3
Hello, would this course, Earth Sci 1GO3 be a good choice in terms of an elective for a first year life sci student. It seems decently interesting and not too hard, my main logic for taking it would be to open up some second year programs so im not stuck taking only bio/chem courses... input would be appreciated

The course if fairly easy but the labs can be a bit of a pain. Midterms and exam are straightforward and overall its a good elective to take in first year. If Machlachlan is teaching it then you should take it, he pretty much tells you whats on the test.

Yes, any cross-listed courses are the exact same courses.

1g03 is all about looking at rocks and being able to identify them...i found it boring...I have taken multiple second and third year enviro sci classes but I found 1g03 to be a bit harder than most courses I took because the prof (eyles) asks more application style questions. bernier is a really good prof and tests stuff right from his notes ...in 1a03 you learn about weather (hurricanes, rain, snow) and i found this course to be more interesting...they are both easy to do well in though

That does sound a little more interesting... i should probably do some more research but its meant to be an elective that i can do well in while at the same time not falling asleep... looks like 1ao3 is a better option, thanks for your help

You can simply use the search function to find reviews on both courses; for future reference.

As for my personal take on Envir Sc 1G03, I took it in my second year and found it quite reasonable as a first year course; not a bird course, but definitely not difficult. I guess the biggest gripe most people have are the labs, especially the first one where you have to read maps (not my thing). The one saving grace is the field trip, which is pretty cool for a university course in first year.

I took 1G03 as an elective in first year. I found some of the content dry, the labs often lasted only 10 minutes, the field trip was really fun, and it was one of my highest marks to date. It's a pretty good course to take, but definately more fun if you are interested in the content.
