Ending Engineering Co-op Early
So I am 5 months into a 16 month internship but I want to return back to school in January. Has anyone done this before? Is it a hassle with the co-op office?

Bad idea bro. As someone who has completed the co-op program and have also graduated. The only thing that got me a job in the end was having relevant experience through said co-op

The coop office will make this VERY difficult for you. Its their reputations thats on the line too. You need a VERY good reason for them to not take action against you.

Also COOP experience (multiple 4 month or a single 16 month) is pretty much required to get a job in Eng.

I'm living proof its not. Show the employer that you are ready to learn and are capable of it and you can get in. I'm not going to say its not helpful, but not required.

I feel like ending it early without a VERY good reason looks worse than not having the experience at all.

And as people have already said, the co-op office will give you a very hard time. They have a reputation to maintain so that employers continue to want to hire Mac co-op students, and you dropping out early compromises their reliability.

Also, did you not sign a contract with your employer for a set period of time?

Thanks for the advice. I think I will discuss it with my manager before doing so with the co-op office. I realized I don't want a career in software and paired with personal reasons/circumstances I need to go back to school in January.

I'd stick through and at least learn about it. Even though software isn't what you want software is very important in the logical thinking etc. I'd continue it anyways and switch after. If you really want to get out (not sure if so) talk to manager ->coop. But i'd stay since it looks bad on mac+urself

If you quit, here's a future job interview:

Can you speak about a time when you did not enjoy the work you were assigned, and how you responded to it?

Response: I quit before I made it halfway.

Alternatively, you could speak with your employer about how to tailor your work to some more interesting stuff.

There's always that downside to 16 month co-ops. But that's what you sign up for.

look I understand trying to give me advice to stick through it buts that not what I wanted. There's no doubt in my mind and the people close to me that know my situation that I should be back at school in January. I'm not getting into my personal circumstances on macinsiders.

Ahh. I see. Exceptional circumstances call for exceptional responses. Hopefully your employer understands. Quitting won't go well with the co-op office or the Faculty.

Good luck
