Engineering Centre for Experiential Learning (ExCEL)

"To enhance the student learning experience in the Faculty of Engineering at McMaster University, the proposed ExCEL building will provide a venue for hands on learning. In addition, the ExCEL facility will showcase sustainable building technologies with the aim of creating an ultra-green building with the potential for a net zero energy rating."

Hey guys, what do you think of this new project ?

Interestingly its design may not be final yet. As can be gathered from watching the video on the following webpage:

Didn't they just build a new engineering building out behind IWC? Or is that something else? (after ETB, which was built before)

I think its across IAHS, in the space of the trees and that piece of weird art, and integrated into the annex I believe? (you can see from the video)

Would it replace the annex into ABB? Because that is incredibly convenient.

No it looks like its gonna be on the left hand side of jhe ( if you are looking from the front) where the mech havethis staue about structres of beam, something like that. across from MoMac. So its contained within empty space around JHE.

Anyone know if 100% this is affecting our tution

$50 increase in tuition and it won't be collected until Fall 2013?

If we pass this referendum, students in first year will be paying $50 per year. Most likely they won't see the Engineering Centre built once they graduate, thus shelling out $200 for something that does not benefit them in the long run. Pretty much these 2018 students will tell the 2013 students, "Oh this is so cozy to study for my finals! Hey, thanks for giving us the 30% capital we needed, suckers!"

My two cents.

looks like its directly adjacent to JHE in the gap between the building, the road, and the annex...which is really small to say in the least...
and as for student colaboration..people are going to be like "i want a food place" and "i want (a decent amount of) study space" and "i want chill space" etcetcetc. That addition is going to have to be a skyscraper (with those dimensions) to at all useful to any more than a handful of students at any one time.
