What is the minimum average this year? and how do I know if I qualify? anyone mind shedding some light?

I think you should have been told you have free choice in your acceptance letter/package. You can always call the engineering office to check for yourself.

it is either a 86 or 88, although I'm pretty sure its an 88

So its based on first term/semester marks, and not on final marks entering into first year?

I dont know, but I would guess its like a condition, if your final marks are not high enough your free choice gets taken away

Unless they've changed it, the only conditions are that you don't fail any required courses and your cumulative GPA is over a 4.0.
