Changing a tire has far more involved in it than just automotive, . Nuts, bolts, mating surfaces, torque ratings, rotating assemblies, materials, the "feel" of a wheel being put onto the hub, I could go on. I think that its those little things that help you appreciate whatever theoretical knowledge you have.
It was merely an example of an engineer being able to visualize and put in his/her hands what it is they're putting on paper. The tire example can extend into other things in any area of engineering. An electrical engineer who can't use a multimeter? And so on.

The jacket is hideously beautiful. Or beautifully hideous, I haven't decided yet.
Pretty sure it costed more than twice what I spent on clothes this year, but I figure if I live sixty more years, that's only like fifty cents a month.

Got my jacket today and I am loving it!
One can really tell that it is of great if not superior quality.
Regarding the debate if one can justify the cost ($380) for the jacket or not...
Well, let's just say that I got what I paid for.
$380 for a sweet jacket is a good deal - to me at least.
(Please take into account that I am not the best judge of prices.
I am known to spend thousands on a guitar.)
I paid $40 extra because of the letters, size, and whatnot.

Congratulations on completing you're first calculation. I'm quite impressed...
380-40= 340

Man, some first years have no idea what engineering is or what the jobs will be like in the future. After taking the communications course in civil engineering II and meeting some industry engineers, one can see that engineering isn't that glorious. Don't expect to get out of engineering and start building cars and whatnot cause you'll probaby be working on a tiny component if not another job. Many engineers do consulting and I know many other people who graduated and do HR technical support.
Btw, faculty bashing is cool during frosh week but doing so during school year is just plain stupid. So what if you don't like my jacket, I don't judge you on your appearence so GTFO of the thread and stop trolling. OP just asked a simple question. Whatever ur degree is or role, we would eventually have to work together in the work force so chill.
