Okay, now I'm more confused about calculating my average. Usually, you would just multiply your course grade by your course units, add those numbers up, and then divide by the number of units to get your average right?
So if I do it that way, I have like a 10 as my average from last term. But if people are saying you need 270 points to get into a program, that means you have to divide that number by the number of units you're taking (so for me, it would be an 8.7, but for someone with a full courseload, it would be a 7.3). So why do I have to get a higher average to get into the same program even though when I'm calculating my average, I'm taking into consideration I have less courses than other people?

Lol, first of all...stop freaking out! You're average is a lot higher than the expected cut-off, so don't sweat it! Just maintain a CA of >=8 this term, and you should be good to go.
As for your average, well, think about it logically: Let's say EngPerson A takes 12 courses/year, while EngPerson B takes 10 courses/year. Assuming both of these people are equally good students, who do you think would be able to get a higher CA? Obviously Person B. So, one reason why they use the point system is to make things fair game. I know some people who've taken 4 courses/term, and as expected, have way higher CAs than those of us with full course loads.
Another reason why they use our total points, as opposed to our overall CAs, is because it gives a more accurate academic representation of the students. For instance, looking at Person A/B again, let's say Person A's average was a 9.7 overall (with a full course load). Person B's average was a 9.8 (with a lighter course load). Person A's CA, IMO, would be more impressive. So, it wouldn't be right to just look at someone's final CA, in that sense.
And to find the total number of points you have, just take your final CA and multiply it by the number of units you have. So, if your final CA ends up being a 10, and you have 31 units. You've got 310 points, which is way more than the 270.

Oh, I almost forgot! I talked to her that day about E/B, and asked her what she thought the cut-off would be roughly around. Well, bad news is: she couldn't really say.
She did say, though, that the E/B cut-offs are pretty inconsistent. Last year it was a ~6.7, the year before that it was ~7.2(Highest it's ever been), and the year before that ~4.5. So, it all comes down to how popular it is this year. But, like I said before, she hasn't been hearing much about E/B this year compared to last year.
Arg. I really hate how mac has a general first year eng program...

Thank you! And you're right, I should stop freaking out. Especially since we only have 2 more exams to go anyway -__- Good luck with yours!

No, not me. My first choice when I applied to Mac was Mechanical.
During my first year, I've learned that my passion was with EVERYTHING.
That's why I chose Tron and Mgmt.

I think having general programs like engineering or life sci are a great way to learn what you like from the place where you will continue your education. High school doesn't really give a good outline of each what subject entails imo.

Nice! Everyone I ask have these great reasons for choosing their programs. I don't remember my exact motivation for choosing Tron but I think it was something along the lines of Transformers and Iron Man had recently been released

Don't know if you've seen this... I found it on an earlier thread (Maybe last years?)
It's completely unofficial, keep that in mind. So it might not really help.
Chemical Engineering:4
Materials Engineering:4
Computer Engineering:4
Electrical Engineering(SURPRISIN GLY):4
Electrical and Biomedical:6.2
Management Programs(Highest):6.5
Mechanical Engineering:6.4
Civil(Structural):6.3
Mechatronics:5.0
Software(All programs):4.0

Hopefully someone can dispel this rumour so I can stop urinating.

E&B has been almost that high but not in the past few years. The cut offs tend to fluctuate a bunch year to year so not much can be said. Mechatronics has been as low as a four and as high as like a 7 or 8.

Usually the least popular of them all. In my first year I devised a system called the "Eng Phys Gambit" as a way to really get people to focus during exams if they were not doing well. Basically you put your first choice as what you want and the second as eng phys. Now you know you'll be stuck in eng phys unless you bring your marks up

I'm pretty sure it just goes by total, no division. At least that was how it was when I was in first year. If you take less than a full load they expect you to do much better in each course.

Lol, not in the sense that it's hard. I know it's only going to get worse from here. I just don't like the fact that we have to compete to get into our specialization. But, I guess it's good too...since we get a feel for all the fields...Meh.
