English 1AA3
Has anyone taken English 1AA3 with Dr. Hyman, and comment on the difficulty of the course?

Thanks!

I'm not sure about Dr. Hyman, but I did take it with Prof. Atwell in the Fall. Overall the course is not hard, Atwell focuses a lot of post-colonialism in literature, we read 3 novels (one was more of a 200pg comic book), one Shakespearean play, and one book of poems. We had a short essay, a long essay, a in-tutorial presentation, and a final exam.

Basically, if you like literature, this is a good course for you.

I took English 1AA3 with Hyman this year and loved it. He's a great prof!

In terms of difficulty, ultimately it depends on your TA (my TA was tough). The course load isn't too bad. You have to read 6 books but most of them were short (around 100 pages) and you could get away without reading one or two of them so long as you attended lectures and tutorial. We wrote two exams: one 500 word one and another 1500 word one.

Exam was 40 MC questions and 4 long answer (1 page) questions. If you know the books, you'll do fine on the exam.
