The GUCEL (Graduate/Undergraduate Collaboration for Experiential Learning) program is a new initiative, which allows graduate and undergraduate students to collaborate with one another while pursuing an experiential learning project. The program is supported by SPICES funding through the School of Graduate Studies. The McMaster Office of Sustainability is overseeing the pilot program, with projects focusing on sustainable initiatives within the university and the local community.
The first GUCEL project, focusing on
waste management, is currently being developed. As part of the project, Jeff (4th year undergraduate student) is looking to engage faculty, staff and students in waste reduction and diversion through infrastructure, engagement initiatives and a building challenge. The Office of Sustainability is looking for
undergraduate* and graduate students to participate in related waste management projects.
In addition, we are looking for a
second group of students to develop their own project idea! If you have a great idea about improving sustainability on campus and are interested in gaining a meaningful, real-world experience, please contact
Melissa Gallina, GUCEL Program Coordinator, at [email protected] to find out more about the GUCEL program and how to get involved!

Undergraduate students have the option to obtain academic credit for their involvement.
