Extra Courses
Hello!

I will be going into Life Sciences I this September, and I was just wondering if it's possible to take more than 30 units worth of courses in your first year!

I'm not sure how it works for life sciences, but it is possible to do what you want to do, which is known as "overloading". Typically, if SOLAR won't let you add the extra courses on its own, you will need to contact someone in the life science office to give you permission to take more units.

Really think it through and make sure you're sure you can handle it. The difference in work load between high school and university is vast for some.

You can, but not recommended!

Thank you both for the speedy replies!

Yeah, I'll go back through my choices and see if I can narrow it down further. Thank you! As well, does anyone know what the limitations are on taking Chinese 1Z06?

Are you a fluent mandarin speaker? If you speak mandarin like a real chinese person in china, then they would not let you take it since you are probably better than the instructor. Or you can fake it (NOT recommended, since this might have severe consequences). In your first year, I would never recommend overloading, it is just too much...

This is based on my knowledge from 2 years ago, but I am pretty sure you aren't allowed to overload until 2nd year, or under very specific circumstances, they may allow you for 2nd term of first year (e.g. if you failed a required course or something).

Hey,
If you want to take more than 30 units by the end of your first year, you can always take courses during the summer.

I'm going to life science I in September as well and I emailed the faculty of science and they said we're not allowed to take more than 30 units during our first year
