First year engineering math course changes!
Hey guys, i was lurking around the forums, and I noticed that about a year or two ago ( not exactly sure how long ago) the First term math was MATH 1Z04 and second term was MATH 1ZZ5

Our math first term is MATH 1ZA3, and second term we have two math courses; MATH 1ZB3. and MATH 1ZC3

Why was this done? :p Does it make it harder or easier for us? And also, how exactly do they teach two math courses at the same time in second term? Does one course teach calc while the other teaches vectors?

Yeah when I was in first year Engineering 2 years ago, we had 1Z04 and 1ZZ5.

I think the reason for the split up was because the courses were pretty disorganized when I took them, and hence the averages were pretty low. The latter course was half vectors so no one was ever sure what was going on, since it was kind of rushed.

All in all, I think the change is to benefit from, since it makes the content clearer and allows more time by the prof devoted to the subject matter.

afaik it was done to give more class time exposure for lectures. same material, more time. too mahy ppl failed 1zz5. they just divied up the calc and lin alg into seperate so ppl can still do well in these seperate maths and it wont drag down mrks

1za3 is a mix of calc and vectors plus series and sequences.
1zb3 is intergration
1zc3 a mix of multivariable and who knows what else. i barely remember now.

Yeah they basically broke it down so its easier in the sense that more percentage of the class would pass..

our test averages were always around 50% for z04 and zz5.. except the first zz5 test which had like a 73% avg (super easy test, but then killed us on the other ones)

The math courses have actually changed twice in the last few years. Whenever I was in first year, 4 years ago, it was Math 1n03, 1nn3 and 1h03. Basically it was exactly how it is now, the second term had a calculus part as well as a vectors. So ya i guess they realized after like a year or two of the 1z04 and 1zz5 classes they decided to go back but change the course code.

30% class average (or something around there, I forget) 'adjusted' to a 51%

All the tests were really easy in that class as far as I remember. Only the final exam was difficult (like 10 out of 30 questions were on that subspace bullshit... wtf).

Math 2Z03/2ZZ3 on the other hand, well... that was just all bad.
