first year students only?
I am going to be a first year student and am wondering will my room mates also be first year students? What is the possibility that I will have upper-year students as my roommates?

Yeah, there is probably only like 1 case every year. If you are in a suite or apartment style then you could have an upper year roommate but they aren't actually your roommate since you aren't living in the same room.

Yeah, I was in Bates last year and had 3 upper year roommates. But mostly everyone else I talked to lived with first years.

Is it a good thing to room with upper year students or does it really not matter ?

Pros: You can buy books off them (less searching and possibly better deals), you can ask them for help (if they are willing to help) with both academic and transitioning issues (although you can also ask your CA the same questions, they are actually there for that).

Cons: You probably won't be good friends with them since you'll only see them in the apartment/suite. So you'll have to make the effort of making yourself available to other people. Walking around residence, talking to people that you meet you class/tutorials/labs, going to residence programs.

They were really nice and there was less drama i found... but I wasn't as good of friends with them as I was with other first years.
