First year timetable question, please help!
I'm enrolling in Humanities this fall and am really confused already as to what I can take this fall.

From the course calendar, I understand that I need to take 12 units from the "Course List 1" that's on there, which is a list of Humanities courses. But aside from that, I don't understand what electives I'm allowed.

There's a "Course List 2" on the calendar as well, which is again, more Humanities courses, although not requirements. Do I need to take 18 units of those? Or am I allowed to take Level 1 classes from other faculties (ie. Social Sciences) as well for my electives?

Also, in first year am I allowed to take any Level 2 courses (from Humanities or other faculties?)

Here's the 2010-2011 Humanities portion of the calendar, hopefully somebody can make sense of it for me: http://registrar.mcmaster.ca /CALEN...nt/pg1366.html

Thanks!

For electives, you can take anything that either has no prerequisites, or that you have the prerequisites for. So pretty much any level 1 humanities or soc sci, plus any courses from other faculties you meet requirements for, as well as upper year courses that are open.

Of course, this all depends on what's available when SOLAR opens.

What do you not understand about the course calendar? I'm in Humanities 1 myself, but was here last year, and could probably help if you're more specific.

So I can take courses from other faculties, thanks My other question is, can I take Level 2 courses (if there are no prerequisites) first year as part of my 30 credits? Or do you need 30 Level 1 credits?

You can take level 2 courses, yes. You can take any course from any faculty you are qualified for, as long as there's room in the course for you.

But I would say not to do that, its already a big adjustment and second eyar courses have a stepper learning curve (plus they assume you already know how everything works, etc).

Don't stress yourself. Do something fun.

Also for admission into many Level 2 Humanities programs you need to have completed 30 Units from Level 1 so you wouldn't really have room for Level 2 courses.

List 1 are the courses you can use for the 12 unit Humanities requirement. list 2 are other Humanities courses you can use as electives in first year, if you so choose.
