I've never had the opportunity to give someone their laptop back or anything of equivalent value. It's such a good feeling when you give something of great monetary value back to it's respective owner. I've only had the opportunity to return iPods and iPhones mainly though.

I agree with the above 2 posts. It seems like giving stuff back to their rightful owners is the rare thing to do nowadays.

Also, it might be a good idea to take it to the Lost and Found at Security (E.T. Clarke Center- across from Thode), RM 201) as maybe someone has filed in a lost report!

UPDATE: I appreciate the kind responses, I'm going to bring it to the lost and found tomorrow. Keep your ears out for anyone missing a laptop.

I'm a little wary about the lost and found's policy. They keep items for 30 days then ???. What's MI's opinion on what I should do in a few weeks? I'm thinking I'll put a note in the laptop case letting the owner know to tell me if they find it, otherwise I think I'll claim it back myself after about 3 weeks and do something with it. Either give it to my mom, donate it, or sell it and donate the money/keep some of it.

This might take a little longer to do, but if the battery's dead, maybe find a friend who has a similar charger you can use to start the computer. I totally forgot about the 30 day policy thing, so it might be a better idea to try and track the person down yourself, and if not, go to the Security office. Or do both simultaneously, but just ask in the Security office if someone filed in a report, without necessarily giving it to them?
