French: Hate it or Love it?
So carrying off from another thread. There seems to be a lot pf different opinions in terms of French. I personally love it, I mean what's better than being bilingual?! What bout you guys  ? And why? (I could list millions of reasons  )

I love French, I've known it all my life and it was the language of my parents' country (or more of a dialect of French).

That's so awesome! I hope one day I'll be fluent.. or close to. Are you continuing with it in school, or ..XD

I love French and I love the concept of bilingualism, but I get impatient with learning languages. If I can get by with just one language, I take the easy route out, as does most of the population. It is a good asset to have though.

Nope, just talk it from time to time at home. I also try and read from time to time, but I'm lazy. Don't have space for it in University :\

That's exactly why people tend to put it aside. I find it annoying too, easy to be impatient. But after I tried Beginner's German, it seemed so easy afterwards! XD

I love it! I took french throughout highschool and then did an immersion exchange program so I'm supposed to be fluent. Since the program ended I haven't really had a chance to practice my french so faiil.
Bilinguism is awesome in Canada because it opens up so many amazing job opportunities.

That's still pretty good, as long as you don't forget! It's such a pain forgetting a language :(. I'm the exact opposite.. French is a required course compared to Biology, in my book anyway XD

I have a long history with French. I was in French Immersion growing up, from kindergarden to highschool. At my first highschool, the teachers were terrible and didn't care about their students, and so I dropped French 'cause I simply didn't enjoy it. Then, in university, I decided to take it again. It was one of my highest marks.
I really love French, it's fun to learn (except for all those damn exceptions >.<) and it's good to be bilingual. It's interesting to be able to read all the French labels on things, and be able to watch the French channels.
One day I'll go to Montreal and use my skills :] |

I like the fact that I know french, but I'm not a fan of the language. I don't like the accent, or the way the language sounds. I find it very coarse and guttural. I think Spanish and Italian got the good end of the stick in the sound department for romance languages.

Lol, Reading the French labels and seeing how it's HORRIBLY translated from the English label.

It is a guttural language. The "R"s are pronounced using the back of your throat...

I made the mistake of trying to use my skills in Paris. All I did was piss them off with what they saw as a poor attempt at their language.

LOL. I know, half the time it really doesn't make sense or it just sounds odd.
I like the way how French sounds... of course, it depends on the speaker. German now, that language sounds damn angry all the time - no offense haha. |
