are these two courses the same or just similar?

That's because he's just going over the key concepts of human geography do that the people who don't take both classes aren't lost when we start talking about other topics in a few weeks and throwing around terms like place vs space or distribution vs density.

1ha3 has an "a" in it, 1hb3 has a "b" in it. therefore, they are different

they are similar in terms of the lectures. 1HA3 talks about society and culture of human geography (languages, religion, etc.) while 1HB3 is more about the cities itself and economy...
