Getting Ready For McMaster: 1. Activating Your MacID
As a McMaster student, you will have what we call a "MACID" or "McMaster ID". This is a series of letters (and sometimes a number) which is composed of your last name and first initials, and it is automatically generated for you by McMaster (you don't get to choose what your MacID is).

Example: smithj2

Your MacID and a password that you choose, is what you will be using to login to your McMaster e-mail, access the WIFI on campus, and also access MUGSI and SOLAR for course registration (two systems we will discuss in our next posting). It is important that you don't share your MacID or student number with anyone, and also if you're an incoming student registering on MacInsiders.com it is recommended that you don't use your MacID as your username (if you did and would like to change it you can contact us).

You need to ACTIVATE your MacID in order to start using it and set up the password for it.

STEPS TO ACTIVATE:
  1. Go to http://mugsi.mcmaster.ca
  2. Click the link that says "ACTIVATE your MacID"
  3. Type in your student number and barcode (both were found on your letter of acceptance), and also enter your date of birth.
  4. You will be prompted to type a secure password (make it hard to guess!). Your password needs to be very secure because if anyone is able to guess it, they could potentially login as you and change your courses around.
  5. Pick security questions and answers that you will be asked if you forget your password (again, make sure they are secure and hard to guess by your friends!)
  6. Confirm everything and click the button to continue
  7. DONE! Your MACID should now appear on the screen. Write it down.
