If I am correct,

It would be cheaper to use a Presto card instead of a 10 ride card?

A 10 ride pass is : 66.75 (85% of the Adult fare)
With a presto card I would get 15% of my fare, there fore paying the same as a 10 ride.
Except if I keep using the presto card Ill get additional discounts later on?

I have a feeling I am incredibly wrong on this. lol

If you take the same GO trip each time you travel within a calendar month, your GO fare* will be:
• Rides 1 – 30, 15%** off the single adult GO fare
• Rides 31 – 40, 95%** off the single adult GO fare
• Rides 41+, 100% off the single adult GO fare

No, the amount charged to your Presto card and using the 10 ride is the same.

The only good thing is that if you do a random trip anywhere which you normally don't do you can use Presto and save 15% off the adult fare compared to getting a 2-ride paying adult fare. Also you can use it on HSR if you're a part-time student or during the summer and pay have $2 on Presto compared to $2.55 in cash =)

Also, HSR is slowly trying to get rid of their paper tickets and monthly passes to make the switch to Presto... so if you know you'll be in Hamilton during the summer and use bus tickets, it might be worth it to get one now. You don't want to have to hunt down somewhere to buy tickets!

It's more like a Tim Hortons card... you preload it with money and tap/swipe your transaction.

hey so q: if i have a 10 ride ticket that gets me form mac to scarborough town center, then i can exchange that for the presto card? whats the benefit? and does campus sell the presto cards?

You just carry around 1 Presto Card, put money onto it (I'm guessing through their website) and use that to pay your fare.

I was going to check the MSU website, but apparently they are doing renovations of the website. The Compass part hasn't been completed yet.

The "student fares" for PRESTO are only for students aged 13-19.

So it looks like you have to pay a regular adult fare if you're using PRESTO, but you pay a student fare if you're using tickets. The convenience of the card isn't worth missing out on the student discount, in my opinion.

The GO Transit website doesn't include the 19 year age limit... http://www.gotransit.com/public/en/f...faresMay1.aspx Probably best to contact them to inquire about it.

The 10 ride is shown to get you the free Presto... you still keep your 10 ride. When I got mine yesterday, they want it so that they can write down the numbers found on the back of the ticket. I'm not sure if they sell it on campus. But if you buy on campus... I don't know if you will get the promotion.

I got off the phone with Presto/GO today about the student discount. You can get the student discount on Presto for GO [http://www.gotransit.com/public/en/f...l _Final.pdf]. You would be a post-secondary student... so it's no different than the 10 ride student. Just remember to get your GO student ID! It is a bit of work b/c you need to register the card online then go back to a GO station.

As for MiWay, I have no idea where that is for, but in terms of HSR we aren't considered 'students' so we can't use student tickets for HSR like during the summer when the HSR sticker expires... we are adult fare.
