I've been told that those scholarships are fairly hard to obtain.

Probably, plus your chances are microscopic, since they do say theres 1.8 million students in the society. Realistically say 10% apply thats still 180 000 students competing for 700 scholarships which is a 0.4% chance of you getting one lol

I wouldn't pass up on that

There's only like two decent companies on that list... they make it sound like these students are guaranteed an awesome job or something, which is hardly the case.

If you want to pay the cost of being a member, then great but I wouldn't call it a huge advantage over any other decent student.

I got invited every year and never joined. My friend joined and said it was a waste of money.

A lot of the discounts are US only.

There's a Golden Key Chapter at McMaster (awful website, I should apply to be webmaster, haha). They do neat things for the United Way and it's a good way to get involved in the community. That said, there are other ways to get involved without paying a lot of money.

The scholarships would be hard to get because you're competing with the "top" of each faculty from multiple schools.

Sigh. So basically, I'd be paying 90 bucks to have a nice line on my resume. No thanks.

Yea. It didn't sound too appealing to me either by reading the posts. I'll stick to being mediocre. XD

XD Perfect.

Besides, 90 dollars is enough to buy a much needed textbook or several delicious sandwiches from Piller's Deli. <3

Totally, you could buy like 3 sandwiches. xD

I dunno, I just thought it was kinda dumb...I mean what, I can pay $90 to have a chance at like, a $300 scholarship? The time spent making the entry essay, could have been spent working an honest job for $210...quite frankly, $210 is not a lot of money in terms of academics.

If I'm going to be a success, it will be of my own merit...not because I bought my way into some useless club. It's like owning a Rolex.

(My girlfriend joined however, so I can't completely bash the society. xD)

I joined, it's pretty useless, I wouldn't suggest you join.

It's not even as good to put on your resume as you think. It's about equivalent to putting "I'm smarter than my peers" on it. Your resume will already show you are smart based on your GPA, you don't need to restate it.

I'd totally suggest buying the Rolex though. (Submariner 18k Gold/Stainless Steel)

Yeah, it makes you look pretty pompous.
