It's not just McMaster either is it?

They get the information about the top 15% from the Registrar's office. So them saying that you are invited because of your academic standing is legit.
Golden Key is an international organization with chapters around the world. I'm fairly sure that as an MSU club it gets funding from the MSU. For the Kenya trip we got donations from Peter George as well as some of the faculty.

I got invited, and all I care about is knowing I did well. The letter was so vague about the society. Although Im kinda surprised that my 10.4 is top 15% ?!

Also the fact that it says "Class". So does that mean you are considered for every class you take? Although I doubt it because I got a 12 in first year in one of my courses and wasn't invited. So does it mean program? Maybe Faculty? Who knows :\

I think you have to pay the $90 to join before you can get any of that other stuff, because all of that says you're a member.

When they say "class" it definitely doesn't mean every class you take. It either means faculty or the whole year...I'm not quite sure which. It seems unlikely that it's by program, since there are so many...and like, my program has 17 people, so the top 15% would be the top 2-3 people...and I'd bet money I'm not one of the top 2-3 people in my program, but I got an invite.

It seems rather strange to me how they boast they are the world's largest collegiate honour society - wouldn't that imply that they allow the most people into their group, and so have the lowest standards? I mean, the top 15% seems to be a pretty generous cut-off range.
I suppose this is yet another example of the "trophy generation" - EVERYBODY wins! Nobody goes home empty-handed! Yay! (Brought to you by the people who started the trend of saying "very unique". Oh humans...)
