I was at the presentation today in Gilmour hall where the representative from D2L was attending. From his presnetaiton and subsequent question period I got the impression that there is a very strong customer approval and D2L appears to be a rising company in North America, catching upto Blackboards 80% market monopoly. Blackboard tried to buy them out a couple of years ago but failed and subseuqently launched a patent lawsuit against them which also eventually failed. Essentially from where I see it CLL pretty much gave up on any hope to be able to solve the myraid of issues that ELM currently faces.

This question was asked and the presenters said D2L is compatible with just about every operating system and browser except if someone decides to install Internet Explorer on a Mac!

I used to work for a company that competes with webct, blackboard and d2l systems. I have to admit that they're all terrible to use. Even the product that I was working on myself.

I guess it was all about using the worst of them at first to lower everyone's standards, and then hit them with something slightly less terrible to make it look good.

The girl in the castle is possibly the quote of the year: Constant hilarity in the Mac Eng musical. Go next year! There will be a new quote, and... The way I see it, there's always one quote a decade that is the best quote of the decade

What I don't get is why Mac uses 2 different systems -- the WebCT/Blackboard/D2L stream for us common folk, and LearnLink for the Health Science faculty.

D2L is pretty good, I used it for a fully online course in highschool. The best part about it is that it's actually usable for the profs.
Regardless, it is still a very heavy and complex system that is going to be loaded with 30,000 people. It's going to have a tough start.
I get the feeling this one is going to do a lot better then ELM did though.

I think they're planning to break it in during the sumer to help avoid some of the snags that ELM hit
