On August 10, 2010, Hamilton City Council will vote on the location of the Pan Am Games Stadium. The choice is between two sites – The West Harbour and the East Mountain. The choice is about the type of city we want to live in and what we believe the future of Hamilton is all about.
As citizens, it’s Our City, Our Future and Our Money on the line and we have the final say on where the stadium should be located.


Their vote will send a message about Hamilton around North America. A West Harbour stadium helps build a city with a revitalized waterfront connected to local and regional transit. It will significantly and immediately increase quality of life in Hamilton, helping to attract and retain the best and brightest talent who seek progressive dynamic cities in which to live.

The following motion will be presented at City Council on August 10 and we urge all who support a dynamic, progressive vision for Hamilton to voice their support for the motion to all decision makers involved. There are a number of ways you can show your support.

Wait, so the Pan Am games will also be taking place in Hamilton? I thought it was only Toronto.

Wait, nevermind. I just searched it up. They'll be a few events in Hamilton, including football at Ron Joyce!

In my opinion, the Councilors should look past the tempting funding offer from Tiger Cats and instead concentrate on the bigger picture! Revitalizing the downtown core is essential for Hamilton's future! Props to the Mayor for trying to keep things in perspective.

The Social Demographics of Ticats followers according t...o many does not support the "door to door" model, economic benefits of Alcoholic beverage sales, externality effect on local businesses as well as possibly damaging an Eco Sensitive area in S.Creek.

Oh and Hamilton Residents have supported Ticats for decades with taxes & Ticket Receipts, they have a right to have a say in identifying where the new stadium is located. Stoney Creek until some years ago used to be a separate city and will be quite a trek, especially for those who don't own a car.

I would Urge everyone to please visit the website, inform themselves on the pro's & con's of both locations and then support the West Harbor location. We are very much residents of Hamilton and even if it doesn't affect us by the time we graduate, as residents we should to some extent be concerned about the future of the city.

What particularly irks me is that opponents of the West Harbour location more often than not cite flaws in the plans for West Harbour, whereas (at least it feels to me) the opposition to the East Mountain site is on the principle of it - it's not in tune with urban renewal at all. Let's just hope that there is an upwelling of public support for the West Harbour on principle...
