What happens if you DONT....
get the grade in a first year course to be able to apply to the program?

Are you pretty much stuck with declaring another major? OR do you have to retake the course and get the grade required to get into the program?

Also, what happens if you don't get into the program you want for second year? Are you stuck taking more first year courses for another year.... I'm confused how this works, since most of the courses on the undergraduate calender list that they are reserved for students enrolled in the program....

If it's a required course for acceptance then you will have to complete it. You can talk to your academic advisor to see what your options are.

If you don't get accepted to the program you want in second year you can shadow the program and talk to an academic advisor to try to get switched into it at the end of the year. You may not get in if the program has limited seats.

If courses have requirements you don't have you can contact the professor of the course and ask them for a waiver, explain to them your situation.

In any case, go talk to an academic advisor because they are able to actually do things.
