HSR Votes for Strike Mandate
A strike can't happen until April 9, so let's hope a deal is reached before then.

The last transit strike in Hamilton was 1998/99 and went on for 3 months.

I should go protest too, as I am tired of waiting for 5 minutes while the driver is stopped midway to get coffee/groceries/laundry....

I'm not fucking kidding, one guy stopped to get his laundry. What the fuck? Soon we will have to wait for them between stops while they stepped out to take a shit or take shower.

While getting laundry might be a bit much (though I've never seen that happen, myself)... what's wrong with bus drivers wanting a break to grab a coffee or go to the washroom? In almost every other profession the employees are allowed a whole hour or whatever for their lunch break, they can easily go to the washroom or grab a drink any time during the day. Bus drivers are driving for hours on end with no break, usually on a rushed schedule because of traffic and such. They don't have any chance to get up and stretch their legs. Not to mention the amount of abuse bus drivers get at the hands of ungrateful & rude passengers.

I never begrudge drivers the 3 minutes it takes them to grab a coffee or go to the washroom. I've been kept waiting at other businesses for much longer than that.

Anyway, I hope the city makes them a decent deal. City hall has long been ignoring and underfunding the HSR, and cancelling the bus lane was just one more thing to prove they couldn't care less about public transit when cars are their main priority.
