one of my profs today said someone in one of his first year classes had this argument...

personally, i don't think you can parallel the contemporary US government and Nazism. although the US has some major faults calling them genocidal is a bit much.

Referring to anyone as a Nazi is a pretty weighted accusation. Personally I don't think calling the US anything near Nazi Germany is appropriate, like Lorend said... they have their faults for sure, but so do we.

not to make this too big of a deal... but that's an inaccurate comparison. i mean, it's true that hitler was a good speaker. but until you can prove that him being a good speaker was a cause, influence or result of his actions that we consider terrible, and that you are linking to any other great speaker... well, you're just wrong.

you know what? hitler brought, at least temporary, economic prosperity to germany. guess that means any leader who makes their country succeed economically is evil and should be removed from office.

the problem is that while what you say is true, you are therefore suggesting that a different fact is true just because of the first truth. i know there's a term for it, and after very basic research on wikipedia, i'd say it's a logical fallacy, maybe considered a converse accident. Wikipedia reference-linkhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Converse_accident

good try, but political attacks are much better when they are based in fact, not rhetorical tricks.

steven

ps. i realize you may not believe the quote, and simply be pointing it out for others to see. in that case, sorry! not attacking you, just the statement.
