plus... surely this is a place were people can express their opinions freely.. not feel they have to say something they dont truelly believe. in saying that i agree with the post before, no one was blaming the people who orginised the whole week, i think everyone can see the effort that was put in, its just nice to have a place for all the people who didnt feel it worked for them to talk about it

There is a place to post feedback to FYEO to let them know you didn't like welcome week at all and changes you would like see for next year. There are a lot of events that run through the year as well as homecoming (so that will be a lot of fun).

I thought WW was really awesome. I am in SOCS and I really liked the events they held. They were really fun and gave me a chance to meet a lot of people.

I also went to Tokyo, the bedraces and a lot of other events and I loved it. It honestly is a little harder to meet people if you don't live in res but that only means you have to put a little more effort into it. I plan on going to more SOCS events throughout the year. And I wouldn't be afraid of 'cliques'. They are annoying, but there pretty much always will be groups like that. I heard a lot of SOCS people saying they didn't like going to the events alone, but that's the whole point. You go out and meet new people.

Very true.
My schedule has large blocks of free time in between most of the lectures, but since I'm an off-campuser like you, I usually spend those blocks holed up in Mills. It's hard to do stuff when you're loaded down with all your books and things with no room in res to leave them in.
It might be better that I don't know many people anyway, since I'm already behind in reading D:
Gotta love those crazy-thick textbooks you get for science courses.

Also, I've read through all 7 of the articles about peoples' first years at Mac and I've noticed that not a single one of them is written by someone living off-campus. People need to realize that not everybody in first year is living in res and that both academic and social experiences for off-campus students will likely be quite different from the experiences their on-campus peers are having.

Yes Moolio, I'm sure you're not the only one who noticed that.

Unfortunately, we don't have any first-year off-campus students on our staff team at the moment. We're not really sure why that happened, it just kind of worked out that way. We also couldn't find any students who loved off-campus in first year who were willing to write for us.

Most of us live off-campus now, and that is reflected in some of the articles we've written; notably the two Off Campus article series that came out late 2007 and earlier this year.

We also posted an article written by the SOCS exec earlier in the summer (around the same time the residence room assignments came out).
