Infractions- are we 8 years old?
So today I posted in a forum and the comment didn't really have any substance, but it wasn't offensive, it wasn't in anyway explicit, there wasn't anything wrong with it at all. I just got an inbox saying I got an infraction and my account could get banned if it happens again. This is completely ridiculous when you actually see some of the threads in this site. How about the 20 life science threads a day asking if their schedule is ok, even though everyone has the exact same schedule, or the 100 people in March-May who ask if a 84.57645 will get them into a program. Are the admin's on this site some sort of glorified babysitter? I'm actually extremely bothered that they think it's ok to give out 'infraction's' for something as trivial as a non-substantial comment.
/end rant

I yelled at a prospective student back in march because he kept changing his marks and asking us if he will get in, so in one thread his english was 60 something and in another new thread he changed it to 80 asking us if he will get in. So I yelled at him because its obvious he is trollin. I GOT AN INFRACTION !!??? I am still upset about that.

I know how you feel now (╥﹏╥)

I think the admin's should get an infraction for 'non substantial reason to give out an infraction'.

I know it will, the intent is to at least make the admins think about some of the unreasonable restrictions on the INTERNET. 99% of the internet is non-substantial information.

I think I'm also mad because it's my birthday today. Every other site I go on like facebook, espn whatever I get a big ole happy birthday. MacInsiders? Here's an infraction for nothing.

Don't break the rules, simple. See a post which doesn't follow the Code of Conduct of MacInsiders and the user will be taken care of appropriately. You don't like how things go down here, by all means you can leave this site because Chad can run it anyway he wants. Happy Birthday by the way.

But as we mentioned here, the particular rule that was broken is so subjective that I don't see how it's a simple infraction or no-infraction situation. Who's to say what's non-substantive?

The people who run this site. (Chad the administrator, lorend, and the moderation team). Don't like it? You got an option still left.

The problem is if as we mentioned before there are plenty of posts that one would think are non-substantive, how do I know which ones are and what aren't? I obviously never intended to break the rule or have anything personally against the administrators, I think what they do is great. I just find the specific rule mentioned vague and hard to follow.

In a way (aside from that guy that kept posting different marks to see if they were good enough to get in), you kind of just have to live with it and not be mean to them.

For a lot of these people, it's literally their first time posting and they have no idea what has been posted before and think whatever they're asking is unique. Telling them "Look at this thread for your answer" is good enough. Pretty much nobody uses the search button on their first visit to a forum.

Also, if you're raging at repetitive posting, it's kind of a sign you're spending too much time on a site :p. I pretty much had "File > Preferences > Connection Settings > Set firewall to passive" commited to muscle memory for whenever anyone asked "Why is DC++ not working for me?" back when I used to troll the DC.

I was wondering if he was the DC++ Chandler at first too... but I'm pretty sure he isn't :p. This post would have had a lot more rage and cursing if he were.
