The Student Success Centre at McMaster University is looking to hire a Stage Manager and recruit Cast Members for the 2012 IRIS Drama Production.
Please read the following information about IRIS and the job descriptions of the Stage Manager and Cast Member.
Some prior criteria for the Stage Manager is to be available for the dates provided below, be eligible for the McWork Program (found on MUGSI), and be a student at the university.

IRIS – Inspiration, Reflection, Integrity, Success – is an educational theatrical production created by current McMaster students in consultation with academic/student affairs departments that welcomes first year students to McMaster University and explores the opportunities and challenges facing first year students in their integration to the community. Using drama, humour, personal monologues, multi-media and music, IRIS encourages students to think critically about academic issues such as academic integrity, time and stress management, establishing goals and priorities and personal themes such as health and wellness, safety and security and choices regarding sex, drugs, and alcohol.

The
Stage Manager’s primary responsibility is to work with the Director, Cast and Crew in the
creation and production of IRIS for Welcome Week 2012.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
• Assist with the selection of the cast and crew
• Attend meeting/workshops of Campus wide Student Affairs and Academic Affairs Professionals and students
• Contribute and assist with discussions on minor revisions to the script
• Work with/assist the Technical Director on sound and lights
• Contribute to the development of a strong team a amongst cast and crew
• Collection/creation of props, program, sponsorship
• Work in partnership with the staff in the Student Success Centre on all aspects of the show
• Responsible for preparing and distributing rehearsal schedules and ensuring cast and crew
members are aware of their rehearsal and call times and are present
• Responsible for keeping detailed notes of all blocking, and light, sound and multimedia cues
• Responsible for keeping detailed note of all set, prop and costumes pieces needed, and working with the cast and crew to collect these items.
• Responsible for calling the light, sound and multimedia cues at each dress/tech rehearsal and
performance
• Must be present at all rehearsals and production team meetings
• Attending Welcome Week Planner training sessions
• Represent the Student Success Centre and McMaster University

• Exceptional teamwork/community building/ conflict resolution skills
• Leadership and Collaborative skills
• Strong organizational skills
• Script development experience (this is an asset, not a requirement)
• Strong written and oral communication skills in one-on-one/group settings and in an on-line
environment
• Knowledge, insight and sensitivity to the academic and personal opportunities and challenges
facing first year students
• Initiative and ability to work in a self-guided environment
• Previous acting/performance experience is an asset
• An interest in fulfilling the goals of the University, Student Affairs and the First Year Experience

A
cast member’s primary responsibility is to work with other cast members and assist the Director and Stage Manager in the creation of IRIS for Welcome Week 2012. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
· Write and perform a personal monologue on an experience from your first year
· Assist with the development/revision of scenes
· Participate in workshops
· Responsible for attendance at all required rehearsals and performances
· Contribute to the development of a strong team amongst cast and crew
· Represent the Student Success Centre and McMaster University
Successful Applicants will demonstrate:

· Leadership skills
· Strong organizational and communication skills
· Knowledge, insight, and sensitivity to the academic and personal opportunities and challenges facing first year students
· Initiative and ability to work in a self-guided environment
· Script writing and scene development experience (this is an asset, not a requirement)
· Previous acting/performance experience (including vocal and dance) is an asset, not a requirement
This is a voluntary position offering valuable and transferable experience and skills in script-writing, collaboration, teamwork and performance.
Contract Dates:
June - August - Rehearsals to be determined
August: Intensive Rehearsals (TBD in consultation with the team)
Performance dates: August 31st, September 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, 2012
