KIN 3V03 - Psychology of Sport
Took this in fall of 2012.
Professor: Dr. Widmeyer. Great lecturer, run-of-the-mill powerpoint teaching style. Knows his stuff.
Marks:
22% x 3 Midterms (MC + SA)
24% Group Project
10% Assignment (individual or pairs)
The 3 midterms will determine most of your mark. The questions are taken out of the lecture outlines courseware (BUY THIS BTW) verbatim, so you really need to know it. Bad thing is, there is no emphasis on learning the material as if you don't write the correct terms, you won't get the marks. Very memorization-based tests. The assignment is straightforward just a few pages on how to decrease aggression in sport or increase motivation of athletes. The group project can make or break your mark. Be sure to work with people you know will do the work. We did the teaching component which involves creating a PowerPoint (as a teacher would) and note outlines for students. You do not need to present. I would recommend doing the teaching module as it seems the easiest (the others were a research paper and a coaching module). He marks the research paper pretty meticulously so keep that in mind.
Overall, this was a fairly easy third year elective. I dreaded studying for the midterms as they are purely based on memory and I didn't find the material to be that interesting. Purchase the book as there are a few questions from the it on the tests, and you will need for your group project. Depending on your ability to blatantly memorize, this should be a 10+ course, given you take the time to commit your notes to memory.
