You can check out this article on computers: http://www.macinsiders.com/showthread.php?t=1826 6

As for the rest...no idea. I'm having enough issues with my phone...I am not the person to ask.

I have the Motorola Krazr and I like it because it's a flip so the buttons don't get mashed in my purse and it's slim and sleek.

A general note on cell phones: Don't get an expensive one if you're going to be using it in and around campus. If you lose it and it's expensive chances are it will stay lost.

They get stolen if you leave them unattended, yes.

As someone who works for Security I can honestly say that Lorend is 100% right. Leave it alone, even for long enough to go to the bathroom or grab a coffee and there's a good chance that it will go missing.

We had a problem with laptop theft last year but the person was arrested and turned out to be an outsider--non student/staff/faculty. This is often the case with theft on campus, it usually isn't the students who steal from each other. Its outsiders. Keep your eyes posted later in the summer for an article on how to protect your property on campus and off!

I would avoid LG; I've heard nothing but bad things about them and the reception sucks! If anything as little as big, poofy, curly HAIR gets in the way the signals crackles. I'm a fan of samsung, but one could assume motorola is a good brand as well.
In the way of service providers I would advise staying away from bell...they will suck LOADS of cash out of your pockets for stupid reasons like they don't offer unlimited texting and so when 3 people go over 2500 a month...it sucks. I'm on a family plan and it costs more money than it's worth, I often end up paying up to $90 on my bill alone.

You may want to check and see about switching your number though. You may have to pay roaming charges if you're using a phone from a different area. Also, people tend to get teste if they are calling a non-Hamilton area code because it's considered long distance.

best cell phone? Clearly the answer is the new iPhone 3G available with Rogers for $199

Downside? The monthly plan starts at $60+TAX

I'm with Telus right now with a Blackberry Pearl. Love it.

Yea...I will have to do that, and I'm considering getting a new phone all together because I HATE BELL.

Yes, Bell and I are not friends. Not friends at all.

Biggest downsides of bell:
1- no sim card; so if one were to switch service providers, oops, new phone! *grumble*
2- expensive since they trick you all the time!

Only good thing:
1- Really good service. (at least three bars in most places)

Even if I am not a fun of any big corporations, I use Rogers number/cell, unlimited incoming calls at $30/month and http://www.text2talk.ca account for long distance. Quite comfartable. I can call parents and friends (US/CAN) at anytime I want at 5c/min only. If anybody interested, I have some giveaway coupon numbers for free long distance. I have got them from text2talk people as a promotion.

Cheers,

-Ken
