Life sci 1st year courses
So I have to pick my courses for tomorrow and I narrowed my courses to:
first term
bio1mo3
chem 1a03
psych 1xo3
math 1ls3 core 1
elective: health age 1aa3 or geo 1ha3

second term:
bio1a03
chem 1aa3 core 1,2 because of the proof lock
psych 1xx3
physics 1b03 core 4
elective: health age 1bb3 or geo 1hb

Does this look like the desirable choice of courses(difficulty wise)? Also, which elective can I take that will be a mark booster? I'm most likely going to honours life sci or honours bio (Im planning to go to med school or vet school).

You're courses look good!
Personally, I'd switch Bio 1a03 to first term and 1m03 to second because chem and physics together can get pretty intense.

Also in terms of electives, you could look into kin 1y03/1yy3, music 1a03/1aa3, linguistics, hlth and aging 1bb3

Yogurt likes this.

^...what? youre gonna have chem and physics together no matter what if you take both chems. and both the bios are the same workload pretty much so it doesnt matter much what other courses you have with them.

I was looking at the times and the profs and it seemed better to have bio 1M03 first. Which electives should I take that will be a mark booster?
Also, does it matter what electives you take when it comes to med or vet school?

look into vet and med schools youre interested in. they should have their prereqs listed. and no, your electives and even your mandatory courses dont matter as long as you have the prereqs. i've heard good things about astro, econ, health n aging, geo, linguistics, chem, religion, music, communications, list goes on...take anything because most first year courses are all possible to get 90+ in and it will be easy as long as you work hard and are interested in the subject

Would you recommend taking Kin 1Y03 and 1YY3 instead of econ 1b03 and 1bb3 for honours life sci or honour bio? I've looked at both med and vet school prerequisites and it says they need 1.0 social sci courses.

The electives you take don't matter for hons life sci/hons bio just your overall average matters. Kin and econ are very different, it comes down to what interests you more anatomy or business? I personally highly recommend kin 1y03/1yy3 but I haven't had experience with econ.

Definitely take econ over Kin if you are going for high marks.
I took both 1y03/1yy3 and the weekly quizzes could be quite frustrating when you have other midterms to study for. I came out with an 11 but my marks for other classes suffered (I think) because it is time consuming. However, it is one of the "fun" courses. If you are into this stuff, then go for it!
if you only want high marks, take something like econ, music, ling, etc.

hope this helps

kin counts as anatomy and some schools you may be interested in want some anatomy. look into it.

For med schools it says that "one full credit of social sci is required". What does that mean?

A full credit generally means 1 year (Usually 6 units at McMaster).

Thanks! So considering I need 6 units of social sci, what do you recommend me taking for my electives? I was considering taking HTH 1aa3 and 1bb3 or econ 1b03 and 1bb3, but I heard both of them are pretty challenging. Also, I really want to take Kin 1Y03.

I don't know where you heard they're challenging...I'm pretty sure the econs are generally regarded as two of the easiest electives. hth aging should also be pretty easy as well. If you want to take kin though, then do that. It's also not hard.

and stop worrying about soc sci courses. you dont need to finish med school prereqs in first year. your probably gonna take a few more soc sci courses in upper years anyways.

sadeghi94 says thanks to Silver for this post.

I'm wondering if its recommended to take both kin 1y03/1yy3 for honours life sci or honours biology. Right now, I have chosen 1Y03 for term one and econ 1bb3 for term 2 (because i heard its an easy elective). Do you think I should change econ to kin or would that be too much workload as I'm taking bio 1a0s, chem 1aa3, physics 1bo3, and psychs 1xx3.
Thanks!
PS thanks silver, I decided to take econ in 2nd year
