"Included in George’s expenses was $30,700 for an eight-day trip to Adelaide, Australia, in April 2006 to speak at a conference, and almost $25,000 spent on an 11-day trip to Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing in November 2007."

I find it extremely inefficient, annoying and frankly, stupid that we finally figure out the set-backs of people ONLY when they're OUT of their position. What's going to be done now? Not much that can be done in my opinion...

Although these expenses deserve further investigation, please don't be naive and say things like "omg peter george wasted our tuition dollars!!!" As you enter the working world, you'll see how valid many expenses are.

Again, not defending him - just saying learn more before throwing out accusations.

Good find, that's a crazy amount of money. $30,000 for an 8 day trip is extraordinarily high. It makes the $100,000k / year that McMaster is still giving him (on top of a $300k+ pension) hurt so much more.

Honestly though, most of us WOULD spend the $30 000 on a trip if we had the resources, which he does. It just bothers me that they figure this out NOW. Why hasn't this been looked into earlier..

$2,676 to rent a vehicle for one month while his car was being replaced in October 2006
this really had to come out of the McMaster budget

I understand that some of the expenses are warrented and necessary however some of them seem to be a little extreme.

I don't think I would ever have spent $30,000 of taxpayer money an 8 day trip. Even when I'm being fully funded to go to conferences I try to ensure I spend the minimum amount that's reasonable. Even if PG flew first class and stayed at awesome hotels, $30,000 for 8 days is still hard to get to. Its not like he'd be allowed to expense purchases / shopping. The $30,000 would only be for lodging, travel and food.

I think its worse that Pether said he’s “perfectly comfortable” with the expenses claimed and he believes they are appropriate, given McMaster’s global reach. Its one thing to do it, and another thing to watch it happen, not do anything and agree to what has happened ; \ (unless i read that wrong)

Those expenses actually seem very modest for a person in his position. $200,000 isn't a lot of money.

Not like anyone can do a damn thing about it, anyways. This came up last year, too - and lo and behold, jack shit was done about it because it was his position, his lifestyle, his money as far as anyone is concerned and the school throws away enough money for us to have to zero in on the ex-president's spending habits.

I'm sure 99.99% of the population would also 'abuse' it given the chance.
