Mac or Queen's??
Can't decide between the two for engineering. Really liked both campuses. Looking for opinions even if they are biased.

Some schools are better than the others when it comes to different disciplines in engineering. Like Waterloo for example is a very good school for software engineering. I would usually tell people to go to both schools and compare campuses, but since you already did that and you liked both, it's up to you. I mean if i were you and i lived in Hamilton, i would choose mac to save on commute and other living expenses. If you live far from both and you are gonna live away from home, then take a look at other comparison points.

McMaster engineering is really unique and different from some universities because we have 3 unique combinations to go with your engineering degree:

1) Engineering and Society

2) Engineering and Management
http://www.eng.mcmaster.ca/engandmgt/

3) Engineering and International Studies
http://www.eng.mcmaster.ca/engandsoc/international.html

I don't know about Queen's, but these programs are very unique in nature and not many universities offer them.

In case you decide to go to mac, here are your first year courses:

Ohh and here are some cool mac eng videos:

Hey,

Both schools are great, and will get you to the same places (in terms of job, or post-grad studies) afterwards. Both campuses are nice. Having been at Mac Eng for 4 years, and having spent 4 days living on Queen's campus before, I might suggest the following items to consider:
- campus-size: Queen's is stretched out a bit further
- location relative to where you live: do you want to have to commute a long distance, if you're from Windsor, London, Hamilton, etc.?
- Student societies: I've made this point in another recent thread, but Queen's and Mac both have large engineering student societies. Queen's certainly wins in some aspects, Mac in others.

Just some food for thought anyways. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks guys. How did you find co-op? I hear it is quite competitive for spots.

fix ur resume: Mac has ppl in the co-op office that can help u that
apply everywhere: Mac's job placement/co-op website isn't the best. In my case I applied to a bunch of companies outside that on the co-op website. And yes it is pretty competitive.

It not very likely to get a summer placement, however long term (12/6 month) placements in ur 4th year are very possible.

Here's what I've learned over several years at inter-school conferences: None of the schools have a superb advantage in co-op.

Yes: Waterloo forces students to get co-op, so you don't get a bunch of useless people who have never done anything other than hand calcs for their technical courses, at graduation.

But if you want to do co-op, Mac has regions where it has an advantage, as does every other school. Waterloo has tonnes of Californian companies taking them in (I know about 10 Waterloo students on co-op, or else now working permanently in California).. It's also a tech-hub, so start-ups love Waterloo. Granted, as has been said in another thread: Blackberry has been favouring Mac students. GE has been doing the same, as there are more than a handful of Mac Eng students there... You have big companies looking to take any engineering student, from any eng school. It changes every few years though.

Hamilton is expensive and the city is grimey. There are too many one way streets and the city is too big to be useful. Even if you have a car, it takes an hour to get to the other side (all the good stuff is in Stoney Creek, which is the entire city away from McMaster).

Mac is a good school though. If you want a social life and like nice, personable people, come here.
