Mac SELECT program? Really worth it?
Introducing SELECT: Student Engagement, Leadership Education, Career Training

Every employer and every team wants people who can demonstrate good leadership skills. Good leadership skills help people to effectively work with others in order achieve results – and that’s what good engineering is all about.

SELECT is a new, multi-level, student-centred program. Participants will attend sessions led by young Mac Engineering alumni who will help you develop these leadership skills, and through engagement with clubs and teams, students will have the opportunity to put the lessons to work.

The program consists of four, 2-hour sessions (7:00-9:00pm) per year, and is a two-year program. This year level one programming is offered; level two will be offered next year.

Registration closes very soon: the first session is scheduled for September 28th!

For more information, see www.eng.mcmaster.ca/select

Is it free? If it is, its up to you. i hardly see how 8 hours per years of leadership training greatly increases your chance of getting a job but you never know...

First-hand Experience
This summer I worked alongside Kyla Fisher developing SELECT. I can assure you that the program has incredible potential -- even though the commitment is so small. Not only will you have access to recent Mac Eng alumni (who facilitate the sessions), you will also have the opportunity to network with other student leaders. The most important aspect of the program is utilizing extracurricular involvement (EWB, Solar Car, GNCTR, etc) and the SELECT sessions to help create a portfolio of skills before graduation.

If you wanted to know more about the program, I'd be happy to answer any questions!
