You pick it up from Mac when you get here. There will be a big white tent in the center of campus and there will be faculty reps and helpers who will check your name off a list and give you your macpass!

None of the res events are covered, nor is the Carnival on Sunday, Monday Night Social, the Amazing Race, the soccer game etc.

In previous years the Mac Pass covered things that were MSU events like the outdoor concert, Mac Connector, and others. Events that are done by Housing Services and those that Lorend mentioned require the MacPass meaning if you want to do these things with the rest of your res you have to buy the MacPass

There has been a change in how WW is funded this year. In past year, it has always been paid for by the mac pass fee (and sometimes subsidized by the planning group as well). But, this year, to help ease the monetary burden on students, to encourage all first years to participate in welcome week, and to help encourage all students to buy the mac pass (instead of some not and feeling left out without the swag, entrance into events, etc), Welcome week has got a huge subsidy from the University.
The subsidy is broken down so that some goes to the FYEO, some goes to the MSU (I believe that's why msu events don't require it), and some goes to SOCS.
That's the reason why off-campus students have a lower mac pass price then residence students. If you live off-campus, you are not getting any lower quality in your welcome week than you would any other year so don't worry!

The MacPass is DEFINITELY worth it! "Deadpool" is definitely onto something! It not only provides you with amazing t-shirts for both your faculty and residence/SOCS, it allows you FULL ACCESS to all events on campus. Many of these events have been mentioned above, but a few more include the Monday Night Social (August 30th) and the Carnival (August 31st). I can guarantee that these will both be amazing events!

The MacPass is only for Welcome Week, but it's a great way to start the year and a wonderful investment. The price is right, so why not I say!

There will be events that don't require the MacPass but there will also be a lot of faculty/residence events that do require them because after all... it costs money to take several hundred kids on a trip somewhere, feed them lunch and entertain them right?

At the end of the day I think the MacPass is worth the money, but if you're strapped for cash (and many of us are) there are still going to be things that you can do during Welcome Week without having the MacPass!

A little offtopic, but can we buy the MacPass during Welcome Week or only before it?
