Macsecure on Linux
Has anyone been able to connect to the new Macsecure wifi using Ubuntu? I'm using wicd as a network manager, using PEAP with TKIP/MSCHAPV2 as the connection method, putting in my Mac ID as the identity, my password, and the path to the CA cert as wireless.mcmaster.ca. It doesn't authenticate me though.
Any ideas?

You need to specify the path to Thwate Premium Server CA certificate which is located on the system.

After you brought MacSecure to my attention I decided to try connecting to it on Ubuntu 10.04.
I am successful in connecting to this secure network, but I did not use wcid, just the default network manager.
I believe your problem lies within the certificate. The path to the CA cert shouldn't be the name of it, rather the actual certificate you need to download. You can get it here:
https://www.thawte.com/roots/index.html
You are going to want Root 2, which is the Thawte Premium Server CA. Save it somewhere on your computer and when you are inputting all the information to setup the MacSecure connection, choose that certificate when you are asked to do so.
Good luck!
If you would like screenshots of what I did, I would glady put them up for you.

lulz
really?
...i should've gone to the installfest, it would've become a lolfest for me
but yeah, WTH is MacSecure? I know it's an Access Point but what's the key and how is it different from MacConnect?
http://www.mcmaster.ca/uts/connectio...a_win7_wpa.htm
ohhk, so basically it's some upgrade to MacConnect that they're VERY VERY slowly rolling out
I might look into this matter since I've done some other stuff during the time of Ubuntu 6.10 about PPTP (when PPTP was not supported so well etc)
nvm, so it looks like it's possible anyway...no need for me to try my antics then

I believe MacSecure allows you to secure your connection while you are on the wireless network. MacConnect isn't secure since its just easier to set up and everyoyne can get on pretty easily.
So if you want to encrypt your connection while say, at the library, MacSecure is the way to do it.

sure, because there's at least one person sniffing the whole network, right?

lol, I did that once. It's quite entertaining to read the contents of the unencrypted MSN packets flying by.

Ya, it's pretty hard to get anything good. Most of it is contact-list updates.
