I bought my books second hand so 'maple' didn't come with it. Where else can I get it? And what is it exactly?

You can purchase it online from their website directly from here:
https://webstore.maplesoft.co m/index.aspx
or you can torrent it and keep your money for buying other books and whatnot..as for what it is, someone else can answer that. All I know is that it's some mathematical program which can assist you do stuff.

A stupid program you have to learn to use in first year which you will never use again in your life.

invest 30 minutes of your life per assignment at one of the school's computers. it'll save you the hassle of finding a torrent&crack or buying it.

If you have a math tutorial/lab schedules they are really just times available to use Maple with a TA there to help you. I honestly found it much easier to go there then working with 6 other friends trying to figure it out

I was one of the suckers who bought maple in first year. Titles book-store sold copies with a mass license key on them. Once those keys were used up you couldn't install it again. I found this out the hard way when I had to reformat my computer partway through the year. As far as my experiences go, I'd say buy a parrot, put it on your shoulder and pirate this junk.
