I would like to but I don't really understand what exactly I have to do. Do I sign up somewhere? And those course things... I don't know why, but it just doesn't make sense to me. :S

i think it is a leadership program where upon completion you come out with certain leadership skills and qualities...and yeah you have to register for those courses/workshops in order to complete the program...but actually yeah even i wanted to ask abt it: Is it beneficial to part in this program? if yes then could anyone tell me what are the benefits?

I've completed about 3/4 of the program so far. You'll find it really hard to complete in one year with a full course load, the scheduling is really difficult.

It takes a significant time commitment. You have to attend 8 different classes, 4 requireds and 4 electives which you choose from a list. The required are at least 2.5 hours long each and the electives are around the same length.

Once you're done 4 of the 8 you can start working on the 40 hours of community service that is also required. You then have to write and submit a 2 page reflection on your experiences. The hours have to be verified by the organization you worked for.

Huge time commitment.

iirc you can start the 40 hours AFTER you finish the 4 core classes.
But I don't really remember.
I only went to the classes that seemed interesting to me.

I'll be attended some of the workshops this coming year. I heard you can do the hours concurrently as well.

If you are asking me, I wouldn't know. But I would like to develop leadership skills and some of the workshops sound interesting.

I personally plan to do it next year, and if not.. then maybe during first and second years. Reading the 2 articles about it, it really appealed to me.. The workshops sounded interesting.. most of them anyway.. and I'm used to community service hours since high school.. Only problem is.. like others mentionned is the time commitment.. but we'll see

I've completed the program.. well I just need to hand in my reflection but it's done. I highly recommend it. I truly learned a lot and Jeanette Button is pretty much the most amazing person ever!

how long did it take you to complete the program? what is the reflection letter all about? also is it true tht we can complete 40hrs of community service only after taking the 4required courses or can we complete them before taking any classes also?

The program isn't going to make you a leader. The program helps establish the skills needed to help you become one. Honestly, I learned a lot about myself and how others perceive me. It helped me learn how to approach others and how to use my strengths for the greater good. In addition, you get to meet some great people. The workshops appeal to a wide range of people. You learn things from time management, MBTI and even Robert's Rules of Order (which if you want to be part of the Inter-Residence Council you'll need to know). I don't think it's a waste of time. It also works really well with your schedule. You sign up for a session which is typically 2-3 hours and you can take all four years at Mac to complete the program. Seats are taken up quickly as it is a required component for the CAs.
