Mastering Chemistry for Chem 1A03
I know that this is optional but what are your opinions on it? Do you recommend it or was it not helpful?

I would definitely recommend it. It's good practice and it tells you step by step how to do the problems if you get it wrong. And it's pretty easy marks.
Forgot to mention that it can also give bonus marks. If you do well enough on each assignment, you can easily get a mark over 100%. The profs don't round those marks down to 100%, they leave it as it is. So last year in 1AA3, I ended up with an MC mark of over 120%

First year chem is mostly review from high school. If you had trouble then you may want to get it, but you can also just use your textbook/internet for questions and answers. You'll also have tutorial questions to practice with and the TAs go over the answers in tutorial.

not really helpful, a lot of the questions go beyond what they would test you, plus, some of the assignments take 6+ hours to complete

if professors give you an option to get easy/free marks for a reasonable fee you do it whether it helps or not imo... thats my opinion for every course.... but mastering chemistry was definitely helpful for someone like me who never opened a the actual textbook. it was the only practice i did other than the past midterms and tests, and i got really high marks in both A03 and AA3. i did not find that the assignments took THAT long.. i also didnt do them all in one day, though, since they're do like every two weeks or whatever it was. as has been said, first year chem is mostly review so if you did really well in high school then this course should be a good supplement during your transition into university. good luck!

yes. but the thing is, even if you get a question wrong like 3 times you still get like 97% on the section because of bonus marks from hints etc. it's pretty retarded how lenient the marking scheme for it was. |

DO IT.
It is the EASIEST mark out of all the breakdown in chem 1A03 and 1AA3
honestly, you can google half of the answers (or copy off of your friends  LOL) and it is a free 6% for minimal work (and you can do it in flexible time)
and as Bernard said you can definitely get more than 100% and one of the marks gets dropped (assuming you complete all of them)! 
plus... if youre like me and didnt do any tutorials or practice questions its a good way to force you to do at least SOME work |

Does anyone know if we can buy the access code online?
I bought the 3 piece set with the textbook, manual and the masteringchemistry code but i'm thinking about buying a used textbook instead.
Also, while I'm at it, is there a huge difference between the general chemistry textbook by petrucci 9th edition versus the 10th edition?
