Math 1a03 Capped For Life Sci Students?
I'm a first year life sci student and I need Math 1A03 to get into second year programs. I thought that SOLAR doesnt cap the courses that are required for a certain program, so then why is SOLAR showing me that MATH 1A03 is full? I really need the course for any second year programs, and I don't know why it's showing me that it's full. Does this mean that I won't get Math 1A03? Please help; and who should I contact regarding this?

Thanks in advance.

that is very werid.. i'd suggestion calling the associate deans of science.
Please call (905)525-9140 ext. 27590 or email [email protected].

Tell them about your situation, and see what they say. They should be able to get you a spot in it. i dont' see why they wouldn't.

That happened to me too...but Math 1A03 isn't the only math you can take to get into the level II programs, you can also take Math 1LS3, which was what I did since the other one was full.

But isnt Math 1LS3 if you haven't done Calculus and Vectors in high school? I've done Calculus and Vectors as well as Advanced Functions so I think I should be registering for Math 1A03.

Also does anyone have a complete list of the courses that are capped and not capped for level I life sci students? I would greatly appreciate the help.

Thanks once again for replying.

Take Eva's advice and email [email protected]. If Math 1A03 is a prereq for the second year program you require, they're going to have to open seats for you.

I'm not sure if you can obtain a 'list' of classes that are full. The only way to check as far as I'm aware is individually through SOLAR.

wait a couple of days, and mail the department that you want to take this course. They should be able to open more slots since the class is not restricted by lab seats or some stupid things.

Don't take math 1ls3, it is candy offered from hell where mathematics becomes a joke.

Okay Math 1LS3 maybe be a joke of a course but if you don't NEED to take 1A03, don't take it. And you only need it for the physical sciences programs (physics and chem). And no Math 1LS3 isn't a replacement for highschool calc and vectors. You need calc and vectors as a prereq for it. I'd take LS3 if you don't need to take 1AA3.

if you dont need 1A03 dont bother taking it... calculus and integrals can be a pain if you have a professor that doesnt speak english like i did haha, but i ended up just going to my buddys lectures and his prof was much better.

1LS3 isnt just for people who havnt taken calculus... its MUCH easier than 1A03, but, if you do want to take 1A03 (might be a good idea just to get some calculus background in uni) then call up the math department and let them know your situation, they probably have a few spots saved or something.

You also need it for upper year math courses.

No 2nd year or higher math course says "Requires Math 1A03." They all require 1AA3 (or more, such as 1B03)...so by the transitive property, Harlequin90 covered that base already:

"If you need to take higher level math, you need to take Math 1AA3.

If you don't need to take Math 1AA3, don't take 1A03,"

is what people are saying.

exactly.. if you can get away with 1LS3, why take 1A03... i took 1A03 because i thought 1LS3 was stupid and I would need the 1A03.. turns out the only other math I have to take now its stats in third year...

damn calculus.

Well yeah, You can't take upper level math without 1AA3 and you can't take 1AA3 without 1A03, so in the end if you want to take upper level math you have to take 1A03 ^-^

I have the exact same problem. I was able to sign up for my courses the very first day and math 1A03 was already full right at midnight. I need it also and apparently there are no seats left after a friend of mine emailed the math department. ugh... very depressing.. I don't know what to do?
