I know that Yr1 commerce students must take Math 1M03 or Math 1A03 instead. But has that changed in any way? Lori Hill sent a message about Math 1A03 after my academic advising but I forgot what it was about. Unfortunately I can't find the e-mail anymore. >.<

Im just worried that I made a mistake and would have to retake math in the end or something. Which would really suck.

Not exactly sure about the specifics of the commerce program but in terms of commerce students taking Math 1A03, you are allowed.

Check out the course calendar: http://registrar.mcmaster.ca /CALEN...nt/pg1881.html

If you want to take upper level math, take 1A03.

If you plan on never taking math again, take 1M03.

I made the mistake of not understand the difference between my two when I picked my classes last year.

i see.

lawleypop: How was it a mistake for you? Were you at a disadvantage for taking Math 1A03? Does it mean that if I decide that I don't want to transfer to Life Science or do a minor in Math in Yr2, I would still be forced to get a minor in math?

It was a mistake for me because during first year, I debated over if I wanted to do a minor in math and I ended up taking 1M03 because I didn't understand the difference between the 2 math courses. I've finally decided that I will do a minor in math, but because I didn't get a mark of 10 or higher in 1M03, I have to take 1A03 in order to take 1AA3. If I got a 10 or higher in 1M03, I would have been able to jump straight to 1AA3. But I didn't, and 1A03 and 1AA3 are required for a math minor, so my 1M03 is pretty much a "wasted" course since I have to take 1A03 anyways.

Note: you are never forced to complete a minor. It is completely optional.

Keep in mind your 1M03 credits count toward your math minor's elective units.

But it's a required math course for business... it counts towards my comm degree. xD Can a course count for 2 things?

Well.. a math minor is 27 courses right?

The requirements are 1A03, 1AA3, and 1B03... and then 18 from Level II, level III, and level IV.

So in reality, it doesn't really count as all towards the minor unless you get a 10 in 1M03 so you can skip right to 1AA3.

Sorry, they must have changed the requirements...

You used to need 6 - 12 units of Science courses (any level), Math 1M03 would have counted for that.
