Is Math 1B03 necessary?
It is said in the Biochemistry brochure that Math 1B03 is strongly recommended for students who want to enter this program. I'm wondering if not taking the course will lower the chance of getting in it?

I don't think thats the case. Rather, if you take the course, it may help you with some of the concepts. I took math 1B03. But my program also strongly recommended physics 1BB3, which I did not take.

I just finished my 2nd year in biochemistry. So far, I did not find that concepts from math 1B03 were necessary for me to do well in biochemistry, but it was still good to know. If you get what I mean...

as long as your CA is 8 or above (with required courses of course), you're almost guaranteed into any program you choose.

As for the coop program. They look at your CA and also do an interview.
They only accept 20 people from the biochemistry program. But not everyone applies, so you have a pretty good chance with a good average.

You probably don't need linear algebra unless you're gonna be doing some sort of physics or programming later on.

Linear Algebra's a fairly practical course that isn't terribly difficult...I'd recommend it if you have any interest in math.

Sometimes it isn't so much the material itself, as it is the ability to think a certain way, that benefits you the most.

you wont need linear algebra unless ur in a chem major
i thought i needed it for chem bio, but turns out you dont. same goes for biochem
only if you go into a chem major, you'll need lin alg. but if u dont take MATH 1B03, theres a special course thats basically linear algebra for chemistry that you cant take instead

do you mean don't need as in not required, or don't need as in not useful... because it says it is strongly recommended for biochem.
