I would assume so. Especially for math, you'll need as many practice exercises as you can get.

for this math course, I found that I didn't need that much practice with the problems, granted I had a particularly strong background in math in high school,
but even some friends of mine just ran through the assignments in the course pack once and they were fine
the questions on the test are EXACTLY like the ones they do in class, well not taken word for word, but almost the same
there is usually 1 harder questino on the test, to test your application/inquiry, but its really not taht bad

Lol... I asked that before I took the course. And after taking the course, I can say you definitely don't need it. I didn't buy one and was fine. Before a couple of tests I looked at the suggested problems from the textbook and they weren't particularly helpful or anything. The course pack is more than enough.

That's really Odd for a math course.. considering how valuable the textbook is in high school. So do you guys realyl think that 1LS3 is that much of a joke compared to 1A03, or as prep for other math courses?
I have quite a strong background in Math.. just not a genius at it or anything.

1LS3 is definitely one of the easiest math courses I've ever taken. I'm really not fond of math as much as others might be but I found that the course was actually interesting because the prof. (Lovric) related the material to real life situations in the field of science and explained everything very clearly. I also totally agree with the other comments about not needing a textbook since all the useful practice problems are in the courseware.

Was there a lot from Calculus 12? Since I messed up in that course pretty bad.. whilte Advanced Functions was super easy.. *sigh..
Then again, there's also the issue of the transition from 1LS3 -> 1AA3 =S

In my year most people found Math 1A03 really easy too. Most of it was a repeat of high school calculus and there was one unit on antiderivatives that was new. It was also taught by Lovric so you had the same sort of relation to real life situations in the field of science and clear explanations.

Ahh if only Lovric was teaching 1A03, it might've made the decision so much easier :S

Yep! And after hearing all the positive comments about Lovric, I thought it might be better to pick based on professor and not course :S

The only part of Calc 12 that was on it was the part about derivatives. I personally found that my gr. 12 calc course covered more related to derivatives than we did in 1LS3. There were no vectors which was amazing. Also good decision on picking Lovric since imo he was probably the best prof I had in first year.

You guys are in luck...Lozinski is one of my top 5 picks for best math profs in the department. I've never heard anyone say anything bad about him.

I don't know Grasselli's teaching ability, but I know him a bit socially, and he seems like a good guy.

Martinez-Pedroza is my absolute favourite prof. He speaks spanish and has a bit of an accent (though his english is fine otherwise), but I've never met another professor who put more care into into his lesson plans, save maybe Lovric (who is my 2nd favourite, though not by much). Don't be concerned because he's only a post-doctoral fellow!

I took the 4th year differential geometry course "Calculus on Manifolds" (6B03) with him last year...I highly recommend trying to get him if an accent won't bother you. He'll make sure you do well (I got a 12 in what would otherwise have been, a nightmare of a course)!

Yay, so we have a first-hand account of all 3 profs for 1A03, since so many people were worrying about the fact that there were no reviews and such.

And Thanks Usman! Makes me feel so much better
