MATH 1M03 or MATH 1LS3 - Business 1
Hey there! I am a first year Business 1 student who struggles with math a lot. I am currently taking MATH 1F03 (because I did not take calculous in high school). I LOVE business to death and know I will not be going into accounting, finance, or economics. I will likely be focusing on marketing. For this reason, I am wondering if next semester I should switch out of 1M03 and into 1LS3. I have heard 1LS3 is much easier? What are your thoughts?

i didn't enjoy my prof for 1m03 and i struggled in that class. i also heard that 1ls3 is easier, and i think clements teaches it and she is an amazing prof.

Yea, I have Clements for 1F03 now. Does anyone know who teaches it next semester and how good they are?

Just so you know, most people who took 1M03 will say that 1LS3 is easier and vice versa.
Anyways, I took 1LS3 the very first term it was offered and it was ridiculously easy, but I believe they've stepped it up a bit since then.
No one is allowed to take both (math 1LS3 isn't open to people with credit in 1M03, and vice versa), so you won't get a decent comparison.

Few people will say 1LS3 is easy as hell, but many others would beg to differ.

Many of the people I know in LS3 now are struggling to pull off 60's on the tests. Keep in mind that many of these same people had high 80's averages in high school.

math 1ls3 is largely review of gr 12 calc (math 1f03 for you) so it should be easy. it is considered an easy course since they test you on just the assignments they give. people who are doing bad dont do the assignments then. my friend was in the same position as you and did math 1f03 then math 1m03 and did fine in both. its first year math. you just gotta do the practice they assign and you should do fine.

I'm hearing such mixed results. What specifically is making 1ls3 hard (for the people who was it isn't easier)?

By assignments I'm assuming you are talking about homework questions?

idk. i didnt take the course. read the review on this site for math 1ls3. thats where i got the info from. both courses will come down to doing a few practice problems. concepts arent hard in both of the courses so its gonna come down to the time u put in. both seem easy based on reviews.

In terms of whats making it hard for particular students is that most year the tests are JUST like the previous years ones (they give you tests from last year). But this year, the questions seem different from what we've been told to study/practice, or have seen. So a lot of people who aren't already great with math - again, like myself - aren't doing the best. Like the second test, for example, was extremely poor for a lot of people because it was entirely different from what we're used to. But overall, they do a LOT to help you - there's tutorial, there's the course package with assignments, textbook question numbers, etc. Lovric is supposed to be really good especially.
I have Clements right now - she's really helpful during tutorials.
They drop 1 of the 4 tests though!
If you do your work, attend lectures, you should do great! Overall, the material isnt hard to grasp, we just need a little motivation

Hey, I'm actually in the exact same position as you right now. and from what I've heard 1LS3 is a lot easier (my friends who are taking it now have said that) than 1M03, and the 1M03 tests are all multiple choice whereas 1LS3 isn't. Idk if that affects your decision but I've always thought multiple choice was harder.

Btw the Math 1f03 test 2 marks are up...average is 42% =O

But in all fairness that test was nothing like the previous tests and lots of us were pressed for time...
