I always thought that backwards emoticons were a little pointless, but as of this post I just realized they somewhat solve the issue of emoticons within parentheses. Thanks for that. =p

Actually, the only reason I used backward smileys is because I use MSN a lot and can't stand their emoticons. I quickly learned to type (: instead of getting some awfully tacky smiley face, and it's stuck ever since.

I find that the backwards winky doesn't really work imo, it looks more like "there's something in my left eye"-face. I agree that some of the emoticons are kind of lame though, especially after the update to Messenger '11.

The phrase "have a 12 in" doesn't really mean much when the only marks you've gotten back are maybe two tests, the first of which was essentially a review of grade 12 Calc.

Yeah, (; leaves something to be desired. But that's the only one I can think of that's kind of crap (and it depends on the font you use too). Gotta stay consistent haha...well, unless you're using a smiley that changes the meaning completely, ie. : D vs. D :
