McMaster to Host 73rd Annual Homecoming Celebrations

McMaster will host the 73rd Annual Homecoming celebrations from Wednesday October 21 to Sunday October 25, 2009.

Homecoming will kick off on Wednesday evening with the McMaster men’s waterpolo team taking on Western at 8:00 PM at the McMaster pool and the McMaster men’s lacrosse team matching up against Wilfrid Laurier at 8:30 PM on Alumni Field.

On Thursday, the McMaster Alumni Association will host a Homecoming Pancake Breakfast and Carnival from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the McMaster University Student Centre / Mills Plaza.

On Thursday evening at 7:00 PM, the McMaster men’s basketball team (5-0) will take on Frankln College (Franklin, Indiana – NCAA Division III) at the Burridge gymnasium.

On Friday, the McMaster men’s basketball team will return to the hardwood to take on St. Francis Xavier (Antigonish, NS) at 7:00 PM. The X-Men were ranked #4 in the country at the end of the 2008/2009 season and advanced to the Canadian Interuniversity Sport, Final Eight Tournament.

Following the basketball game on Friday at 9:00 PM, McMaster Student Union (MSU) Campus Events will host the Kick Off to Homecoming concert featuring McMaster’s own, Arkells. The Arkells Have travelled across Canada sharing stages with Bedoin Soundclash, Sam Roberts Band and Alexisonfire.

On Saturday morning at 10:00 AM, the McMaster men’s badminton team will host the University of Western Ontario in the David Braley Athletic Centre Sport Hall.

At Noon, the McMaster women’s rugby team will host the Western Mustangs in the OUA Women’s Rugby Semi-Finals.

Also at 12:00 PM, the McMaster Alumni Association will host their Homecoming Chili lunch in Marauder Plaza outside Ron Joyce Stadium.

On Saturday at 1:00 PM, the McMaster football team (5-2) will host the University of Guelph Gryphons with a home field playoff game on the line for the Marauders.

The newly formed McMaster Marching band will perform at Half-time of the football game.

On Saturday evening, the McMaster women’s and men’s volleyball teams will host their first conference games of the season against Brock and York at 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM. The McMaster men’s team captured the OUA title in 2008/2009 with the women’s team finishing second.

On Sunday morning at 11:00 AM, McMaster will host the 26th Annual Athletic Hall of Fame Induction with Ron Joyce ‘97, Paul Clatney ’98, Selena Blaj (Gaertner) ’99, ’02 (RN), Carol Love (Eastmure) ’75, Chris Markou ’94, ’95, Paul Ragusa ’97, Diane Ste. Marie ’89, ’93 (PhD) the women’s CIAU Championship Gymnastics team from 1980/81 and the CIAU Championship Wrestling team from 1993/94 being inducted.

Following the Hall of Fame Induction, the men’s volleyball team will host Ryerson at 2:00 PM and the men’s basketball team will tip-off against St. Mary’s University (Halifax, NS) at 5:00 PM.

A Great Start to Homecoming

Last night the McMaster men’s lacrosse team defeated
Wilfrid Laurier 14-10, the McMaster men’s waterpolo
team knocked off Western 13-6 and Campus programming
sold out the Arkell’s concert.

As of 11:30 AM today, McMaster Homecoming football
tickets are 60% sold.

McMaster Athletics and Recreation strongly encourages
you to purchase your Homecoming football tickets in
ADVANCE of the game.

Tickets are available at the Compass Information Centre
and at the Business Office in the David Braley Athletic Centre.
