Ok, not the news per se, but the Mercer Report clip made TalentEgg's Friday Finds!

Mac pulled out of negotiations with the school board for the downtown health centre. They are looking to build it somewhere else

Thanks Danny!
I would be pissed if I was at Convocation and people were protesting though.

Yeah, I would be quite angry as well.

Is it just me, or is convocation possibly the most ridiculous place to protest this kind of issue?
The Spec article said they are trying to show the public and future students the issues with CUPE and the school.. but future students aren't really going to convocations. It's pretty much just PAST students. What good is that?
If anything, they should have protested May @ Mac or Welcome Week or something (not saying that's what they should do - but it's more logical than convocation)

I agree, protesting in front of those who graduated is the dumbest idea ever. May @ Mac would have been a really good idea as well.
Welcome Week would be waaay too late though, as all of the hiring would have been completed. Fall preview (August 9th I think this year) would be another good day.
I know a bunch of people graduating today, so I'm curious to see how they feel/felt about it.

I guess they want to give students something to remember (as if convocation wasn't enough). Not sure how positively they will be looked on if tehy ruin a convocation.

If Petey wasn't sick with the flu I bet he'd do something.
I'm not sure what, though. I don't see him as being very action-oriented...like no water balloon bombs or something.

A friend of mine went to Soc Sci convocation and she said she didn't see anyone picketing.
Even then.. it's so distasteful. A graduation/convocation is something great that you want to remember for the rest of your life. There are other, more logical places to picket. It's just unnecessary and distasteful. I'm really unimpressed with this whole thing.

Convocation really isn't that great. I found it super boring.
I guess I only knew about 15 people at mine out of 300 though.
