According to data released by Research Infosource, McMaster receives more than $234,000 per faculty member — well above the national average of $175,900.

"McMaster continues to punch above its weight when it comes to research intensity and overall research income," said Mo Elbestawi, vice-president, Research and International Affairs.

"Our faculty continue to attract significant investment, while earning the respect of their peers based on the quantity and impact of their publications. We're home to some of the country's — indeed, the world's — most respected and talented researchers."

McMaster attracted more than $322.5 million in sponsored research income in 2013, based on financial data obtained from Statistics Canada.

Research is nice and all, but hiring some competent profs for software department would be nice.

Actually not just hiring, but making sure they don't leave in a year or two.

As a top 100 university, that is declining in rank for the last several years. Also as one of only 4 Canadian universities on that list. This article should not be pointing as one of the most well funded research institutions, but asking why does McMaster only rank 7 and not do better?

I hate it when people say we are 92nd in the world when people don't complain how we dropped from the low 80's in rankings just under 5 years ago. This institutions quality is lowering!
